Creating split archives
Split archives (also called multi volumes) are only supported in RAR format. Usually split archives are used to split a large archive into several parts to be saved onto serveral disks or any other data carrier.
1. To create a split archive start topack your files as you would normally do.
2. Once you are prompted to enter the file name, enter the desired file size for each separate part of your split archive or choose the automatic option. In the automatic mode WinRAR will recognize when the disk you are saving your archive to is full and prompt you to insert a new disk.
3. WinRAR will create several archives with the settings you chose.
How do I password protect my archives?
WinRAR lets you encrypt your archive with a 128 bit key. To guarantee optimum security, we recommend using passwords with more than 8 characters in length and to combine letters and numbers in the password.
1. In the dialog box choose the option "Set password"
2. Enter your password.
If you choose the option "Show password", you'll be able to read the password and it will not be marked with asterisks.
The option "Encrypt filenames"; will show a password prompt right when the archive is opened, without showing the files it contains.
What does solid archive mean?
Solid archives are RAR-archives that are compressed using a special algorithm that copies all the files to be compressed into a single file before actually packing them.
Solid archives significantly increase compression rates especially when many smaller, similar files are being compressed.
1. You have several files, some are the same type.
2. Choose this option in the dialog box
